Suit up!

Have a internship seminar later in the day today so I'm going to school in a suit. Definitely not the most comfortable attire for the weather, now that the rainy season has gone and it is completely summer D:
Omg I look like an adult haha. Slowly, slowly.

This is called a Recruit Suit in Japan. To quote wikijapan

一般に学生が購入、着用するための安価で没個性的なものが多く、そのスタイルもある程度決まっている。

Recruit suits usually purchased by students and are affordable (mine cost about 20000jpy in total) and have no character (read: boring). The style of the suits are more or less all the same.

It's basically a uniform for students looking for a job.

Like that. The picture shows a blue and grey suit but its really always all black. No pint stripes whatevet. Girls' suits have a tailored collar and 2 or 3 buttons. Shoes black with about 5cm heels.

Typical job fair

Got this picture off the Internet but its pretty much like that most of the time. Also, maybe it's just todai but there aren't any campus recruiting fairs. So its always just suit up, to school and skip the last period ><

I wonder if its like that everywhere?

While I'm on the topic, I don't know if its just me or Japanese people really love suits. Job fair - suit. Seminar - suit. Internship interview - suit. Cram school teacher (part time) - suit.

While waiting for a train yesterday. iI thought it was cool how an apart gangster looking guy with a shaved head and trimmed eyebrows was totally normal in Japan.  Haha.

  1. Haha the format of the job fair looks a lot more structured and formal that what I've seen in the UK! We get uni job fairs where they set up booths like that, but everyone pretty much turns up in whatever they were wearing to begin with (read: sometimes just a hoodie and uggs) and looks around. Almost like how you'd browse flea market stalls, come to think of it, though ofc you'd speak to whoever you were more interested in lah :D

  2. If only it was like that here! When you wear one of these suits it's like announcing to the world that you're going for some kind of job-related event that day lol. And it's also so restricting and hot in summer! Even like if it's just to take an assessment centre test, 90% of the people turn up in suits :/ lol. It's also like a flea market here though! But it's like flea markets with occasional talks XD
